ATM scam foiled in Melbourne

An ATM card skimming scam has been foiled by a wary ATM user in Melbourne, who noticed a card reading device attached to a machine.

Police issuing an alert on Wednesday said the device at the Jam Factory entertainment venue on Chapel Street, South Yarra, was recognised by the user last week.

They are urging people to check their bank accounts if they have used an ATM in the South Yarra region.

The reader in this case was a sophisticated unit, with a pinhole camera attached to a plate above the key pad, along with a false card reader attached to the card slot.
